This course concentrates on the overall content of the entire Old Testament with its historical,
geographical, and cultural backgrounds. Only the English version of the Bible will be used.
While the basic content of each individual book will be given, emphasis will be placed on how
each book fits into the overall story of the Old Testament.
Students will be expected to complete all assigned readings and participate in class discussions.
The final course grade will be determined on the basis of 1 Take home Exam 70% and 1 Book
Review 30%.

CASKET Study Guide-All
Book Review-Due on the Morning of the Second Day of class.
1 ) Choose an Old Testament book that you have never read before.
2 ) Book should be no less than 250 pages.
3 ) You may read a portion of an Old Testament commentary for your book review.
4 ) Book Review should be typed, double spaced, 12-font, and 3-4 pages.
5 ) Read the plagiarism article before beginning your paper.
6 ) Be prepared to give a 3-5 minute oral presentation on your book review.
7) A Book Review explains the general themes of a book, how well the author proved
his/her point(s), areas that could be improved upon.
8) The Book Review must be on a book, other than the Bible, about a particular person
in the Old Testament i.e. the Life of David, Moses, the Prophets or cover general themes
found in the Old Testament i.e. curses, plagues, covenants, genealogies.

-Introduction to Course
-Lectures on Pentateuch, Joshua and Judges
-Evening Assignment due the morning of Day 2
-Evening Assignment Read Judges 19 and answer the 4 assigned questions. One person from
group should take notes for the group.
Day 2
-Book Review Due
-Lectures on the United Kingdom, Northern Kingdom and Prophets
-Evening Assignment due the morning of Day 3
-Evening Assignment Read Joshua 2 and Gen 27 and answer the 3 assigned questions. One
person from group should takes notes for the group.
Day 3
-Lecture on the Southern Kingdom, Prophets, and Wisdom Literature
-Evening Assignment start studying for final exam.
Day 4
-Lecture on the Exile and Temple
-Oral Presentations
